Teenagers — They Trust No-one

You may find that your teenager questions absolutely everything. They need cold hard facts and evidence to believe in anything. You see they are a particularly sceptical breed.

After watching The Secret and listening to me harping on about positive mental attitude, I think my daughter may finally be open to the idea. Well, in part at least.

The conversation we had involved her telling me that, “There was a lot of nonsense in that film, but there were some facts that she knows because she has learnt about them in science.” So she has decided that she will give herself some positive affirmations and is going to work on creating a more positive mindset. Win for me, and for her.

See my daughter needs science to prove things. She needs to ‘know’ that something is real before she can truly believe it. So is this really belief or is this just simply knowledge? I must confess, I am not sure. I think there is an element of belief but it is founded in factual evidence as she sees it. I suspect that your teenager, if you have one, is pretty similar.

So this got me thinking. Why are teenagers so disbelieving, so cynical when they are so young? Or is it just that they truly believe that they already know everything so you better make damn sure you can prove otherwise if you want them to believe you.
