Investing In Me

How much money would you spend on yourself? I am not talking about a new outfit, item of jewellery or even a car, I mean you… how much are YOU worth?

I don’t spend money on me. I shop on eBay, in thrift stores and charity shops, I am the ultimate second hand Sally. That is fine by me, I like to get that bargain, but it would be nice to walk into a shop and just buy something that isn’t on sale, something full price… ah the dream.

Anyway, I am not talking about that sort of stuff. I am talking investing in yourself. I have done a degree course that was an investment in me, but apart from that, not much. It’s not just about the money, or lack of it, it is also about the belief that I deserve it spent on me above other things that need to be bought.

This is especially true now that I am a mum. I am always last on the list. I am not bemoaning this, I love and adore my kids and I want the best for them. But maybe the best for them actually is wrapped up in what is best for me? At least this is an idea I am currently kicking around.

I have invested in my creative career. I have taken two courses and have two mentors. I now also am part of a paid for group. It has, to say the least, been life changing. Making that investment meant I was taking myself seriously as a professional writer. I was/am taking myself seriously as a creative who is going…
