Instantly Misunderstood
Do you ever say something and it gets misinterpreted? Or just taken completely out of context. Do you feel the need to explain yourself and try and let the other party know what you actually meant? Does this then lead to a solution or a bigger problem?
See I am a writer, so you would think that everything I write is pretty easy to understand and rarely gets misinterpreted. Well, I wish that was the case. But the thing is, you cannot factor in other people’s interpretations because other people have different issues and views that they will project onto what you say. This is true whether it is in person or written form.
In todays world of instant messages it is even easier to offend than ever before. Especially if you write something from an emotional standpoint and the person you message is also having an emotional day. Oh jeez can things go sideways quickly then. Even more so if you don’t check what you wrote before you hit send. It is amazing how one misplaced word can change the entire context of a message.
I don’t just struggle with instant messages, I struggle in person too. I will say something before my brain goes into gear and although I know what I meant, it doesn’t always come across that way. It can be very easy to get someone else’s back up.
