Blue Monday is a Crock, but Sadness is a valid feeling.

Today I was reading some interesting things about this so called ‘blue Monday’. Not least of which came from the fact that I posted a quick reference to it alongside one of my mindset Monday posts.

Now I am the first to admit if I am wrong, so here I hold my hands up and say, I should have worded my opening to my post a lot better. I basically tacked on the words ‘apparently it is blue Monday today’, and then talked about sadness. So I can completely see how people thought I went along with this popular misconception that a specific day of the year is dedicated to being the saddest day.

It isn’t, it was totally made up by the retail industry to make people spend money after Christmas to ‘feel better’ because there is some mystical slump to the 3rd Monday in January. It is bollocks.

Right, now I have that out of the way…

Sadness is a real feeling and it is perfectly ok to feel it. If you are sad today or any other day, don’t worry, you are allowed to be. You are also allowed to use the words ‘I am sad’, or any other derivation there of, that you feel appropriate to how you are feeling.

You don’t have to be happy all the time. You don’t have to say, ‘I’m a little less happy today’. Fuck that, if you are sad, own it. Say you are sad. Say you are…
